Role Overview
We are seeking an outstanding and creative Teacher of French to join our Greenwich campus as Subject Lead. This is a fully remote teaching role delivering live, synchronous lessons to small classes (maximum 15 students) across French
As Subject Lead, you will shape the vision for visual arts at CGA, drive curriculum design, and oversee the consistency, quality, and ambition of teaching across the subject. You will combine excellent classroom practice with strategic leadership, championing creativity in a fully online environment.
Working Pattern
Teaching load: up to 22 periods per week
Lesson length: 45 to 55 minutes
Typical working hours: 7:00 to 15:00 (UK time)
Most lessons scheduled between 7:00 and 14:00 (UK time)
Some teaching may occur earlier for staff based outside of the UK depending on student demand (currently from 2:00 UK time onwards for staff in Asia)
We welcome applications from candidates based in Europe, the Middle East, or Asia, particularly those able to support earlier UK teaching hours.
Teaching and Learning
Plan and deliver engaging live online lessons in French that are well-structured, sequenced, interactive, and adapted to learner needs
Develop students' competence across the four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing
Use evidence-informed strategies such as retrieval practice, modelling, choral repetition, and guided practice to build fluency and accuracy
Embed cultural understanding of the Francophone world throughout the curriculum
Ensure all students actively participate, with frequent speaking practice and visible thinking during lessons
Set purposeful homework that reinforces vocabulary, grammar, and communicative skills
Provide timely, clear, and actionable feedback on both written and spoken work
Curriculum Delivery and Subject Leadership
Lead the French subject area, setting the strategic direction for modern languages at CGA
Teach across Key Stage 3 and iGCSE French
Deliver curriculum aligned with Pearson Edexcel International GCSE French
Lead the design and rollout of International A Level French as the programme expands
Contribute to the development of in-house KS3 schemes of work
Ensure curriculum consistency, sequencing, and high standards across the department
Stay current with awarding body specifications and exam guidance
Assessment and Progress
Use a range of formative and summative assessment strategies, including speaking assessments and writing tasks
Track and monitor student progress against benchmarks
Identify students requiring support or stretch and adapt teaching accordingly
Contribute to internal assessments, mock examinations, and reporting cycles
Online Teaching Practice
Deliver high-quality lessons in a fully remote, synchronous environment
Use core platforms effectively, including Zoom, Canvas, and Teams
Maximise speaking time and interaction through breakout rooms, polls, and other online tools
Maintain well-organised online course materials and resources
Essential
Qualified teacher status (or equivalent)
Minimum 2 years' teaching experience
Native or near-native proficiency in French
Experience teaching French at KS3 and GCSE (or international equivalents)
Strong subject knowledge across grammar, vocabulary, and cultural content
Ability to plan and deliver high-quality lessons
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Confidence using digital tools for teaching and learning
Ability to engage and motivate students in an online environment
Desirable
Experience teaching A Level or International A Level French
Experience teaching Pearson Edexcel or International Edexcel specifications
Prior subject leadership or curriculum design experience
Experience in online or blended learning environments
Experience teaching internationally diverse cohorts
Familiarity with Canvas, Zoom, or Teams
Ability to teach an additional subject
