Job Summary:
The position as the Head of Department for English and Humanities is an extremely important one. As part of the leadership within our DaVinci Academic Team, you play a pivotal role in maintaining our educational standards, guiding our teachers, and ensuring our students receive the best instruction. You will be part of a small HOD team of 4 members, overseeing 4 departments within DaVinci:
- US Diploma Track- English/Humanities
- US Diploma Track- Science/ Mathematics
- A-level Track-English/Humanities
- A-level Track- Science/ Mathematics
Time Commitment & Compensation:
You can expect to commit between 20-25 hours a week to your departmental duties. Starting off, you'll oversee the performance and quality of 30-40 teachers, a number that will grow over time.
Key Responsibilities:
Teacher Support & Coaching
Provide ongoing coaching and support to teachers across all regions, equipping them with the necessary tools and training to deliver high-quality instruction in the Da Vinci Learning mode.
Offer guidance and training on time management and completing course content within the 50 live instructional hours, tailored to diverse global time zones and teaching contexts.
Provide dedicated support to students worldwide, offering guidance for academic or other concerns, and following up on student-of-concern reports submitted by teachers across regions.
Canvas & Course Management
Enforce strict adherence to Canvas guidelines by all teachers, ensuring schedules, course outlines, and grades are uploaded and maintained.
Oversee Canvas courses, ensuring teachers maintain and consistently update them in line with best practices.
Regularly review department Canvas course templates to ensure alignment with CGA course expectations.
Maintain organized and accessible teaching resources for the department, ensuring they are easily available to the global team.
Reporting & Compliance
Ensure 100% of teachers across the global team consistently submit high-quality reports, adhering to provided report guidelines.
Training & Collaboration
Plan and lead global training sessions and departmental meetings, fostering cohesion, efficient resource sharing, and adherence to best teaching practices across diverse locations.
Required Qualifications:
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Subject Area, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- U.S. teaching certification in relevant subject area (or equivalent certification) with strong understanding of U.S. high school curriculum standards, especially in an online context.
Experience:
- At least 3-5 years of experience teaching in a U.S. high school, with a proven record of success in both classroom and online education settings.
- 2+ years of experience in a leadership role, such as Head of Department, Curriculum Coordinator, or similar, in an online or blended learning environment.
- Familiarity with U.S. state standards, Common Core, or AP curriculum, and experience adapting these for virtual instruction.
- Experience using digital tools and platforms (such as Google Classroom, Canvas, or Blackboard) for content delivery, assessments, and student engagement.
Leadership & Management Skills:
- Strong leadership and management skills with experience in leading, supporting, and mentoring a remote team of teachers.
- Ability to set and communicate clear departmental goals, drive team collaboration, and ensure accountability within an online teaching environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff, students, and parents in a virtual school setting.
Organizational & Administrative Skills:
- Ability to manage departmental resources, budgets, and administrative tasks, ensuring smooth operation of the department remotely.
- Proficiency in data analysis and the ability to use student performance data to track progress, identify challenges, and inform decision-making.
- Experience with managing and organizing digital curriculum materials, assessments, and lesson plans to ensure consistency and alignment with school standards.
Instructional Expertise:
- Strong expertise in subject matter content and a deep understanding of teaching strategies that are effective in online high school settings.
- Knowledge and experience in online curriculum development and instructional design, ensuring content is engaging, rigorous, and accessible to a diverse group of students.
- Ability to provide ongoing professional development to teachers in the department, focusing on effective online instructional practices and digital pedagogy.
Student-Centered Approach:
- Passion for fostering student success in a remote learning environment, with a commitment to providing individualized support and guidance for students.
- Ability to implement strategies that promote student engagement, self-motivation, and independent learning in an online setting.
- Experience addressing and supporting the unique academic, social, and emotional needs of students in a virtual classroom environment.
Collaboration & Teamwork:
- Ability to work collaboratively with other department heads, instructional staff, and administrators in a virtual school environment to ensure a cohesive and unified approach to teaching and learning.
- Experience in leading virtual meetings, sharing resources, and collaborating across departments to support school-wide initiatives.
Technology Proficiency:
- High level of comfort with educational technologies, including learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Moodle), video conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet), and digital assessment platforms.
- Ability to incorporate technology to enhance student learning experiences, facilitate engagement, and support collaborative work in an online space.
Cultural Awareness & Global Perspective:
- Understanding and experience working with diverse student populations, including international students, in a virtual learning environment.
- Awareness of best practices for supporting students from different cultural backgrounds and adapting instruction to meet their needs in a digital context.

- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly to the evolving needs of an online learning environment.
- Excellent time management skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
