U.S. College Financial Aid Process Advisor

This is a part-time, ad-hoc remote position. The position is open to applicants based in any country. Hours will vary weekly. The position is most active from September to February.
The purpose of this role is to oversee smooth customer experience in Crimson’s US Financial Aid Consulting programs by:
1. Guiding students and parents/ guardians through the US Financial Aid Application process from introduction and application submission to financial aid package review,
2. Developing resources to facilitate the US Financial Aid process
What are the main responsibilities for this role?
- Holding 1-to-1 advising meetings to provide step-by-step guidance on which forms families should complete and how to do so correctly
- Providing insight to the other members of a student's team and to students and/or their families directly about which schools to apply to based on the student's financial need
- Communicating session takeaways with students and the rest of their Crimson team as they move through the application process
- Reviewing financial aid applications before submission
- Helping students find merit-based scholarships for which they are eligible to apply, both at university and from external sources
- Updating and creating new resources to help families navigate the financial aid process
- Providing overview presentations on the Financial Aid Application process both to Crimson families and Crimson staff
What skills and experience are required?
- Prior experience in assisting both US and international families/students with the US - Financial Aid Application process is a must
- Previous experience aiding families/students with the CSS Profile, FAFSA, ISCOF, ISFAA, ISAFA, or any other US financial aid application materials is a must.
- Responsiveness and reliability
- Empathetic communication across cultures
- Proficiency in English is required and fluency in one additional language is preferred. Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, and Swahili, are highly desirable, however all non-English languages will be considered.
- Information management and organization
- Familiarity with financial management / financial literacy concepts
- Background or knowledge in business, finance, and/or the US tax system is preferred
- Discretion, confidentiality, and patience are critical competencies for this position
- Ideal candidates will have attended a US University and will be familiar with the US financial aid application process, including but not only: the CSS Profile and FAFSA
